After crushing the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 3-0 in early May, the Las Vegas Lights Football Club has been in somewhat of a slump. Since that shut out, the Lights have dropped two games on the road and tied twice at home, most recently against the Orange Country SC.
On the bright side, the Lights still maintain an undefeated streak at Cashman Field in Downtown Vegas, boasting an impressive 4-0-2 home record. However, the home field record comes under threat this week, in the form of New Mexico United, the number one ranked Western Division team in the United Soccer League (USL).
New Mexico is coming off a 3-0 loss to Sacramento Republic FC. They will be rolling into Las Vegas on Saturday looking for redemption and will surely be utilizing their two veteran forwards Kevaughn Frater (#10) and Santi Moar (#11), who boast 19 goals between them.
Not everything is doom and gloom for the Lights, however. Leading the attack will be Forward Irvin Parra (#11) who currently has eight goals this season. Las Vegas’ defense is being bolstered by center-back, Dejan Jakovic (#27) who the Lights acquired via loan from Major League Soccer (MLS) team Los Angeles FC last week. Last, but certainly not least, the Vegas net will be defended by Las Vegas native Tommy “The Mayor of Cashman” Olsen.
Any way you slice it, this will be an exciting game with impacts for the USL’s Western Division. Kickoff is on Saturday, June 15th at 7:30 PM and will also be broadcasted on ESPN + for those individuals unable to make it to Cashman Field.
