Preview: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Anaheim Ducks

The Vegas Golden Knights will head to the Honda Center to take on the Anaheim Ducks. The Knights currently are riding a four-game winning streak, whereas the Ducks look to snap a six-game loosing streak.

The Knights started the year off slow after their historic season last year. Vegas was definitely on the radar of their opponents coming into the year with their recent success of getting to the Stanley Cup. Vegas is now finding the rhythm they had last year, as they are moving their way up in the standings. The Knights sit in second place behind the Calgary Flames in the Pacific division.

The Knights William Karlsson leads the team with 15 goals. Vegas collectively has five guys who have ten or more goals on the season.

The Ducks have seen a decline in their player development this seasons going forward. Rickard Rakell, who’s been the Ducks top scorer over the last two seasons has only five goals and has missed time from the ankle injury he’s been nursing. Ryan Kesler has also struggled getting the puck in the net, with only four goals. Some Veteran’s on the team have also missed extended time from injuries such as Corey Perry and Patrick Eaves. Eaves has only played five games and Perry hasn’t appeared in a game this season.

Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has been selected to the NHL All-Star game, located in San Jose, California at the SAP Center. Fleury has been one of the most dominant goaltenders this season, leading the NHL with 23 victories on 37 starts and six shutouts. It will be Fleury’s fourth All-Star game, as he’s participated in 2011, 2015 and 2018.

Ducks goalie John Gibson was also selected as a Pacific Division All-Star. This will be Gibson’s second selection to the All-Star game, as he played in 2016. The Ducks have never had a goaltender selected to multiple All-Star games. Gibson’s record sits at (15-11-6) with a save percentage of .924. Gibson was youngest goalie to reach 100 victories, only at the age of 25 in the Ducks franchise. The Ducks only have three other goalies in their franchise to reach the 100 win mark. Gibson is chasing the Anaheim Ducks’ wins leader, Jean-Sebastien Giguere who has 206 wins.

Both teams are in need to climb the standings in the Pacific Division. Game time is set for tomorrow January 4, 2019 at 7pm (pst).
