The 5’9″ 192-pound cornerback was originally a fourth-round pick out of Utah State by the Lions. His time in Detroit was productive, as quality cornerback that can play nickel corner and outside the hashes. The 27-year old Lawson will bring the Raiders some experience to their young defense.
Lawson hasn’t recorded an interception throughout his career, but has totalled 25 passes defended. Last season he had one sack, 53 tackles and five forced fumbles in the 15 games played.
Lawson will join the Raiders cornerback group that consist of Gareon Conely, Daryl Worley, Nick Nelson and newly acquired nickel corner, Lamarcus Joyner. Lawson will be another boost for Paul Guenther’s defense, which is in desperate need of defensive playmakers.
