RB Chris Warren III now up to 270 pounds

Chris Warren III came out of the University of Texas, where he had limited action over his three seasons playing. In his last season at Texas he rushed for 314-yards and six touchdowns. After his time with the Longhorns he went undrafted and eventually signed with the Raiders as a free agent.

Without many carries during his college career it detoured many teams away from Warren at the NFL level. Although, he was an intriguing figure coming out of the college ranks at 6’2″ 247 pounds who ran with a lot of power.

Warren got his first chance during the preseason and took advantage of every opportunity he got. Warren showed flashes of the ability to break tackles with enough speed to get past defenders and good vision through the hole. With that being said, he lead the NFL in rushing yards during the preseason. Warren was paving his way onto the depth chart as one of the running backs that Gruden would implement into his  offense behind Marshawn Lynch.

Despite his immediate success, he went down with a knee injury and landed on injured reserve. It was a huge blow to the Raiders backfield, as he was producing time-after-time in all four of the preseason games.

The Athletic’s Vic Tafur has reported that Chris Warren is all the way up to 270 pounds. Warren missed the entire 2018 season and was unable to do football drills and stay in football shape. When rehabbing a knee injury, it eliminates most football activities. The only thing Warren was able to continue with, was upper body weight lifting.

270 pounds is a lot of weight to haul around when having to make cuts and sprint through the open holes. Once the Raiders begin their offseason workout program and OTA’s he will likely cut some weight.

With Marshawn Lynch becoming a free-agent, the running back position is a big need of the Raiders. Warren is a candidate that could become the featured back for the Raiders. Jon Gruden loves big and physical type of players and Warren brings that kind of energy to the Raiders roster.
