New York– Every year the Metropolitan Museum of Art committee tries to find different sports or entertainment figures to host the prestigious Met Gala. This year Serena Williams, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele will co-host the prestigious gala.
All of these co-hosts have different personalities and it will be intriguing to see how Serena Williams will implicate her personality to keep viewers’ attention. Williams has a monotone personality, very likable, but not much animated.
The theme of the Met’s 2019 Costume Exhibition is “Camp: Notes on Fashion. The theme was inspired by Susan Sontag’s excerpt in an essay that she wrote that defined what camp meant to her. “Love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.” What people should expect is a lot of creativity within the room. The exhibition itself will feature over 200 pieces of fashion, along with sculptures, paintings, and drawings from the 17th century.
Anna Wintour said this in a recent interview about the Met Gala. “Obviously it helps that well-known names draw attention to not only the gala but also to the exhibition and to the museum; for all the starriness of the names on that one night, we never lose sight of the fact that the aim of the gala is to raise funds for the Costume Institute, so we can support its place in the cultural life of New York City and beyond.”
Tickets to this year’s event were reportedly priced at $35,000, while tables — which design houses like Louis Vuitton, Versace and Givenchy often buy out are priced at $200,000 and $300,000.
The Met Gala will air live May 6, 2019, at 6 PM ET
