VEGAS (October 22, 2018) — The Oakland Raiders have traded away Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys for a 1st round draft pick. The trade was a little surprising to some individuals because when healthy, Amari was a game changer and brought a lot of spark to the Raiders’ organization.
In Cooper’s first two seasons, he had over 1,000 receiving yards but has declined because of injuries and the lack of time with the Raiders’ offensive line.
Since Jon Gruden has come back to coach, there has been a lot of shakeups with different guys getting traded, benched, or moved to different positions from what they are accustomed to. Khalil Mack was traded to the Bears and now Cooper to the Cowboys.
The Cowboys desperately needed a spark at the wide receiver position, because they are missing a deep and physical receiver that can make plays down the field, extend drives, and have the effort to fight for a jump ball. Despite having 22 catches for 280 yards this season Cooper will draw attention to the defense and it will give other players an opportunity to make a play for the team.
The move comes just in time for the Cowboys to attempt to make a playoff push. They are ranked 3rd in the division, after the loss to the Washington Redskins yesterday and are only two games back from first place, they needed to bring in a guy that can be a factor down the stretch.
It will be very interesting to see how Cooper will handle a different offensive style than the Raiders.
