Vegas Golden Knights hold tryouts for Knights Guard ice crew at City National Arena

2019 Knights Guard Auditions:

Las Vegas, NV- Even though the official start of training camp is still slightly over two months away, the Vegas Golden Knights have already begun gearing up for the 2019-20 NHL season.

There was evidence of this on Wednesday, as the team held auditions for their Knights Guard game night ice crew at their practice facility at City National Arena today (July 10th). There were well over 40 men and women in attendance, all hoping to impress staff enough to earn a coveted spot as part of the Knights Guard for the upcoming season.

The Knights Guard are the crew responsible for keeping the ice surface in peak pristine condition whenever there is a stoppage in play during games. Candidates were put through an on-ice obstacle course of sorts in which they were required to show their skating ability- as well as dexterity while on ice- while simulating tasks that they would have to perform during games.

One such drill involved candidates skating as swiftly as they could, while still maintaining enough control to retrieve multiple hats resting on the skating surface. The tryouts also included off-ice and interview portions as well, to determine who the best applicants were for the job.

The Knights Guard ice crew will be presented by The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for the 2019-20 season. Although the positions are part-time, they still play a vital role in helping to create a game night atmosphere at the Fortress in  T-Mobile Arena that is unmatched and has been the envy of nearly every other hockey club in the NHL.

In addition to Wednesday’s Knights Guard tryouts, the team will be holding auditions for a chance to be chosen for the Golden Aces cheer and promo team next week. The two-day audition process for the Golden Aces will be taking place next Tuesday and Wednesday (July 16-17).
