Raiders legend Charles Woodson has announced he will no longer continue as one of ESPN’s Monday Night Football analyst. Woodson has worked for ESPN for the last three seasons as part of the pregame and post game show. He said his final goodbye to his ESPN colleagues in an Instagram video that he posted on his account. He also hinted at the fact, that he will still be involved within the game in some fashion. He did not indicate if that would be with another television network or if he was going to head into coaching.
Although, the Raiders defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley was hired by the University of Tennessee for the upcoming season. Ansley was only on the coaching staff for one season, coming from the University of Alabama. That leaves an opening on the Raiders coaching staff and Woodson could be the guy to fill that role.
Woodson will likely have opportunities in the coaching industry. Jon Gruden drafted Woodson out of the University of Michigan in 1998. They’ve developed a good relationship throughout each others football careers and still after football continue to have kind words for one another. With the Raiders drastic struggles on defense last season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Gruden attempts to bring in Woodson as an assistant to help the defensive backs. The one thing Woodson would be lacking, is having experience in the coaching field.

Woodson was quite the player himself, during his 18-year career Woodson played for the Raiders and the Packers. He served as a cornerback and then later in his career, converting over to safety. He finished his career with 65 interceptions and won a Super Bowl in 2010 as a member of the Green Bay Packers. He made it to eight pro bowl selections and was an all-pro three times. His talent didn’t go unnoticed, as he was selected as the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Woodson is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
