49ers WR Marquise Goodwin wins “40-yards of gold” sprint event

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, Marquise Goodwin took home the ’40-yards of gold’ sprint challenge on Saturday. The former third-round pick not only flashed his blazing speed, but he was also awarded a $1 million dollar grand prize.

His road to victory was quite challenging, as he took down a talented group, such as Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Damiere Byrd, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Christian Blake, and Denver Broncos running back Khalfani Muhammad in order to catapult himself into the final round.

Goodwin may have come away victorious, but it certainly was a close finish. Carolina Panthers cornerback Donte Jackson, fell short of Goodwin by 0.05 seconds in the final 40-yard dash.

Goodwin was a former track star dating back to his time at the University of Texas, and he put that all on display showing his freakish speed to people across the NFL at this running event. He was also a participate in the 2012 Olympics, where he partook in the long jump.

Goodwin is known across the NFL as a burner who can run with the best of them, but winning this challenge takes the cake, in the sense of how fast he really is. Running amongst the NFL’s fastest players and winning the bracket, definitely solidifies his break away speed. There’s no wonder why he primarily runs vertical routes down the field, nobody can cover him.

Goodwin is entering his seventh year in the league, where he played his first five seasons in Buffalo, before coming over to San Francisco. He’s just one season removed from his 2017 breakthrough campaign, where he caught 56 passes for 962-yards, and two touchdowns.

Last season was somewhat disappointing for Goodwin, after showing so much promise the pervious year. Last season, he was hit with some injuries, meanwhile the 49ers had a revolving door at quarterback. They experienced three different signal callers to start games for them last season, making it difficult to get into any sort of rhythm. If starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo can stay healthy this season, the 49ers look to be a quality offensive unit, with Goodwin being a big part in the offensive attack.
