Las Vegas, NV – The Las Vegas Aces played their first home game on Sunday afternoon in what felt like an eternity, and didnt disappoint their hometown fans in holding off a game Minnesota Lynx team for a 79-74 victory.
Sunday’s game was a close battle throughout, with Liz Cambage and Kayla McBride placing the team in scoring with 22, and 20 points, respectively. The team required additional output from everybody to make up for the nearly 20 points a game provided on a nightly basis by star player A’ja Wilson.
Wilson, the sophomore superstar and All-Star captain, was inactive for Sunday’s game, out with an ankle injury (the severity of which is still said to be unknown, although the fact that she was in a walking boot surely wasn’t welcome news for Aces supporters).
Super sub Dearica Hamby was effective in starting her first game of the season, and the Aces injury woes continued when reserve guard Sydney Colson also went down with an apparent ankle injury midway through the third quarter.
Following the game, Aces head coach did not eliminate the possibility that the team could look to pick up an additional player on a seven-day contract, given that the team was down to only nine healthy bodies after the injuries sustained by Wilson and Colson.
The Aces still have one more game on the schedule before the All-Star break, as they host the second-place Seattle Storm on Tuesday.
Following Tuesday’s game the franchise will be hosting the All-Star game and weekend Festivities from July 26th – 27th.
Cambage with a jumper to put the Aces up 61-57. Cambage would strike again with a nice trailing layup after Rodgers finds her with a nice touch pass as Cambage cut to the basket.
