Miami- November 2019, former world champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr (50-0) announced he was coming out of retirement in 2020 via Instagram. After the reveal, there has been no official announcement in Floyd’s next fight to-date. Only social media posts of ideal super fights between the 42-year-old high-paid athlete of the decade and previous challenger, current WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, and UFC superstars, Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. In Miami for Super Bowl LIV, Money spoke exclusively with Noreaga and DJ EFN of the top-ranked Drink Champs podcast on an assortment of top priority topics in which he reveals unknown facts on past fights, possible rematches and more.
“I’m give you what you want,” Floyd says at the beginning of the interview. Unfortunately, however, he does not reveal who he will fight next or when within the interview. An uncensored alcohol-meets-Hip Hop based podcast, Floyd also does not drink any alcohol during the interview.
A comfortable Mayweather is witty, sharp, factual and braggadocious delivering memorable catchphrases the entire interview like, “Follow my green print,” “Having one girl is too close to none,” and “I’m a King, I eat a feast and when I get up from the table, I don’t care who get the leftovers.” Shown above, Floyd gave permission to be inquired about anything and he would answer honestly. Along with addressing Conor, Manny and Khabib, Floyd discussed a variety of celebrities including 50 Cent, T.I., Kobe Bryant, Juan Manuel Marquez, Antonio Margarito, Errol Spence Jr, Adrien Broner, Andre Ward, Andre Berto, Shane Mosely, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya, Richard Schaefer, Victor Ortiz, Dana White, Canelo Alvarez, Bob Arum, Don King, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, the late-Arturo Gatti and late-Deigo Corales.
While he wishes nothing but the best for everyone, Floyd shares the origins for past beefs with Berto, De La Hoya, T.I. and former best friend 50 Cent. He talks fight strategies against Mosely, Ortiz, Judah and McGregor. His thoughts on fellow champions Canelo, Broner, Spence and Ward. Still reeling from the loss, Floyd shares several stories involving the late-Kobe Bryant.
At the 46:00 mark, Floyd addresses possible Mayweather/McGregor 2 and Mayweather/Khabib fights, “Me and Dana White have been talking…”
Mayweather confirms the fights will be boxing because he is the “A-side” and proposed a two-in-one same day fights with both MMA stars. A morning fight with McGregor and an evening bout with Khabib.
According to Sportsbook, the betting line for Mayweather/McGregor 2, Mayweather is a -200 favorite with Conor +160 underdog. For Mayweather/Khabib, Bovada reports Mayweather is a -1600 favorite to Khabib +800 underdog. However, the odds for Mayweather/Pacquiao 2 is naturally closer with an active Pacquiao in great shape and an inactive Mayweather coming off a two-year layoff. Floyd edges out Pac Man as a -260 favorite to Pacquiao’s +260 and the fight going the distance with Floyd receiving the decision.
By the numbers, Mayweather’s first fights with McGregor and Pacquiao are the two highest boxing gates of all-time with $55.4 million (McGregor) and $72 million (Pacquiao). And with the top spots, Mayweather is also involved in six of the top ten highest boxing gates of all-time including his victories over Oscar De La Hoya (39-6) that drew in $18.4 million, his protege Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (53-1) that drew in $20 million, and back-to-back fights with Marcos Maidana that drew in $15 million.
According to TMZ Sports, Floyd desires to compete in two fights in 2020. One potentially being a “UFC Crossover” fight which many are considering a McGregor rematch or Nurmagomedov first. Of course, all of the potential bouts will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. More as this story develops.
