Ryan Leaf has been arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery in Palm Springs, California.
According to a report by TMZ, the former NFL quarterback was arrested Friday afternoon on the domestic battery charges and his bond was set at $5,000. No other details about who the victim was, or any details about the events that led to the charges have been released.
Leaf, 44, was the second pick in the 1998 NFL draft behind Peyton Manning. He was selected by the San Diego Chargers, hoping that he would be their franchise quarterback for years to come. Unfortunately, Leaf’s collegiate success at Washington State University didn’t translate into professional success and he famously flamed out of the league after four forgettable seasons between the Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks.
His life then went into a tailspin and he had multiple run-ins with the law, being arrested multiple times for drug possession and burglary.
In recent years, Leaf seemingly got his life together, becoming a program ambassador for Transcend, a company that serves as a sober living community to those dealing with addiction and mental health issues.
