Former UNLV football versatile defender Gabe McCoy will suit up for the American Team this weekend at the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl college all-star game.
The fifth annual SPIRAL Tropical Bowl will be played Sunday at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium in DeLand, Florida. Kickoff is set for 7 a.m. PT.
McCoy (Pittsburg, CA/Pittsburg HS) was a three-year starter for the Rebels playing at both linebacker and defensive end. He played in all but one game of his collegiate career and finished his senior season with 32 total tackles, eight tackles-for-loss and two quarterback sacks. Wearing number 37 in Florida, he is listed as a linebacker for the all-star game.
The two-time team captain, who earned his bachelor’s degree before this past season, was voted the winner of the Tom Wiesner Award, which goes to the player who best exemplifies the courage, enthusiasm, dedication and toughness of the late Mr. Tom Wiesner.
McCoy becomes the second Rebel to be invited to the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl, joining offensive lineman Nathan Jacobson last year.
