New York– After knocking down Steve Rolls with a power jab in the fourth round and getting his victory over his opponent, Gennady Golovkin stated that he hopes there will be a trilogy fight with Canelo Alvarez as he looks towards the next fight.
“I am ready for Canelo in September. “Just ask him. Please guys, if you want big drama show, just ask him,” said Golovkin. “I am ready for it.”
Golovkin felt like he was robbed both times in the fight against Canelo. In the first match, the decision was a draw, but in the second fight, the judges scored it real close, in favor of Canelo. Golovkin made a statement on Saturday dropping a younger opponent with a defining jab. The power that Golovkin still has at 37 years of age is still there.
Golvokin has always been a knockout puncher in his career, but a lot of people before the fight doubted that would finish Rolls off in dominating fashion and he proved the critics wrong. If he can not fight Canelo, Golvokin would invest some interest in fighting younger talent.
“It’s kind of a provocative question,” said Golovkin when asked if he would be interested in fighting Andrade in September if he can’t get the Canelo fight. “If I say Andrade, then Charlo will say, ‘Why not Charlo?’ If I say Charlo, then Andrade will say, ‘Why not Andrade?’ Our priority is Canelo, then we can talk about Andrade and other fighters. I feel very happy. My smile all day. I shifted from first gear to gear,” said GGG in explaining how he was able to get the knockout in the fourth. “I gave him a couple of chances.”
This is what De La Hoya response to Golovkin’s win was this. “Now fight a real fighter, win a belt, and I’ll consider doing the 3rd fight.”
