Jacobs paces Raiders to 16-6 victory over Browns

Josh Jacobs broke out for a season-high 128 rushing yards on 31 carries and helped pace a Raiders offense to a win over the Cleveland Browns, 16-6.

The Las Vegas Raiders improved to 4-3, while the Browns dropped to 5-3 overall.

Jacobs previous high for the season came in the Raiders opener against Carolina in which the young superstar running back rushed for 93 yards and 3 TDs. Although he was kept out of the end zone for the fifth time this season, he aided the team’s offense by eating up chunks of overall time possession.

The Raiders 37:43 total time of possession was over 15 minutes, or an entire quarter, more than the Browns could muster on a cold and blustery afternoon in Cleveland. Rain and snow flurries, wind gusts up to 35mph and temps in the 40s would normally mean a tough loss for Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, who was just 1-10 in games where the temperature was 45 degrees or cooler on opening kickoff.

But, just like weeks earlier at Arrowhead Stadium, Carr continues to have a turnaround career season and prove his doubters wrong. Carr finished 15-24 for 112 yards and a game-sealing touchdown to Hunter Renfrow in the fourth quarter.

The Browns vaunted running attack, led by Kareem Hunt with 66 yards, was held in check by a swarming Raiders defense.

The Raiders defense, and defensive coordinator Paul Guenther, have been under sharp criticism these last few weeks as the unit continuously allowed big plays which led to high scores. After keeping the Browns powerful offense to six points all game, the nay sayers will have to wait at least another week to pile on.

Cleveland’s QB Baker Mayfield was held to 122 yards passing on 12-25 attempts in his first game without Pro Bowl wideout Odell Beckham Jr., who tore his ACL in last week’s game against the Bengals.

Raiders tight end Darren Waller had 5 catches for 28 yards.

Next, the Raiders will face off against division opponents the San Diego Chargers in a crucial game for both teams on Sunday. The Browns enter into their bye week to heal and rest before taking on the Texans on Nov. 15.
