Kenny King responds to Jim Cornette: “Cornette’s an asshole. He’s a lying piece of shit”

Multiple-time pro wrestling champion Kenny King isn’t one to mince words.

King was a guest on the latest episode of the podcast mash-up of Vegas Sports Daily and Levels, and for the better part of the interview it centered on his recent run-in with Mayweather Productions reporter Jody Kohn. That incident, captured on video, saw the breakdown of an interview between Kohn and King with Jeff Mayweather, of the legendary Mayweather fighting family, that eventually led to a physical altercation.

Yet, it was his response to another situation that set the podcast into overdrive.

King, 38, was asked about Jim Cornette’s recent remarks about him in a podcast episode of Cornette’s that was uploaded to YouTube earlier in the day. The podcast is called ‘Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru’ and is incredibly popular among pro wrestling fans for Cornette’s no-nonsense approach to explaining the business side of wrestling, as well as his many famous stories and run-ins with different personalities over his lengthy career in the business.

On this particular episode, Cornette was discussing the origins of his long standing feud with the tag team The Young Bucks. However, it’s around the 12:50 mark when Jim, discussing his thoughts on helping then Ring of Honor President Cary Silkin save money on the Ring of Honor shows, first mentions Kenny King by name.

For those ‘tl;dr’ crowds it basically is summed up like this: Jim says Kenny was basically an overpaid, lying sack of shit who was a mediocre wrestler.

King responded in kind.

“Jim Cornette’s an asshole. He’s a lying piece of shit. If anything Jim Cornette ever had to say about me was ever true, then why am I on my third Ring of Honor contract and Jim Cornette can’t even come into the locker room,” King stated.

King then explained that Cornette played a major role in his decision to leave Ring of Honor in 2012, and also factored into King’s return to the promotion in 2015 given that Cornette was no longer with the company.

And the part about him being overpaid?

“If he thought I was overpaid then, he’d shit himself over what I’m getting paid now,” King exclaimed.

There certainly is no love lost between these two. Which in the business of professional wrestling, is always a good thing.

[Editors note: King’s response is in the video above. We attempted to play the full 2 minute cut for context for Kenny during the live podcast, but unfortunately it didn’t go through, only part of it. Our apologies. Kenny got the gist of it though.]

A transcription of the excerpt is below, as well as a link to Jim Cornette’s video.

“And when I found out what he was paying the guys, I was shocked on both ends. He was getting some ridiculous deals, where guys should have been making twice as much as they were according to their contribution on the card or potential, and then it was the other way where he had given indiscriminate raises to fucking people he liked personally. And… oh my god… that team with Rhett Titus and Kenny King. Rhett Titus was doing all the work. Kenny King just fucking wrestled once every three weeks and went and shook his dick in Las Vegas, cause in addition to being a lying sack of shit, he was also just an outlaw wrestler and didn’t apply himself to work full time so he never got any better and he was always fairly awkward but Rhett was really digging in. Rhett was making $150 bucks and Kenny King was making $350 before I could stop it. At one point that’s when I had to sit Cary down and I said ‘you had 38 different people you paid on this particular live event, to be on the card as a talent in some fashion. Referee, manager, wrestler, whatever. I said you take those seven off. Now you got 31. You’ve just saved several thousand dollars per night plus trans [transportation]. I figured out the exact amount he saved. I said ‘are anybody gonna set the seats on fire if those seven guys aren’t on a show but the other 31 are?’ ‘No’ I said ‘good, you just saved up several thousand dollars. Permanently. Fuckin give them their notice. Bring them back when you’re making money. Some of the guys didn’t like that. They’d rather nobody had a place to work because there was no company rather than you cut the fucking fat off the thing and try to concentrate on your positive talent.”  [Transcription of 12:50 – 14:38]
