NFL to cut preseason in half, push back start of exhibition play

The NFL will allow teams more time to train after the coronavirus pandemic turned the offseason into a time of facial coverings and swab tests.

According to a report by the Associate Press, the NFL will cut the its preseason schedule from four games to two and will push back the start of exhibition play to allow teams more on-field practices and weight training.

Teams around the league will play preseason games from Aug. 20-24 and Aug. 27-31, with each team playing a home and an away game.

These games will take place during what would have been the second and third weeks of the preseason schedule. The league also opted to scrap the Sept. 3 games to let teams focus on the start of the regular season on Sept. 10 when the Houston Texans travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs.

So far there has been no change to the regular season schedule as the league continues to draw up protocols for testing entire organizations for coronavirus while allowing for the maximum amount of practice and weight training time for teams.
