Pac-12 Championship game to be played in Las Vegas

The Pac-12 conference announced today that Las Vegas, Nevada will be the new home of the Pac-12 Championship game in 2020 and 2021. The game will be played in football’s newest venue, where the Raiders are building a state-of-the-art facility projected to cost $1.9 billion dollars.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott broke the news at the Pac-12 Football Media day.

“Our Pac-12 universities and entire Conference are thrilled to have our 2020 and 2021 football championship event take place in one of the most anticipated new venues in sports,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. “Highlighting and showcasing our programs on one of the biggest stages in a major destination market is a tremendous opportunity for our student-athletes, universities and fans, and consistent with our mission to create the best possible experiences for student-athletes. We are excited to work with our new partners in the Raiders, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and MGM Resorts International for these events.”

During last five seasons the Pac-12 title game was held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Today’s news, marks the second college football game that’s set to be played at Las Vegas Stadium. Recently it was announced that Las Vegas Stadium will be the new host of the Las Vegas Bowl, which will feature a school from the Pac-12 and either the Big Ten or the SEC.

The Pac-12 is a quality power-five conference where they’ve produced 10 National Championship teams, with the latest one coming from USC in 2004. The conference has also developed 11 Heisman trophy winners and 200 consensus All-Americans during their existence.

2018: Washington Huskies vs Utah Utes (Winner: Washington)

2017: Stanford Cardinal vs USC Trojans (Winner: USC)

2016: Washington Huskies vs Colorado Buffaloes (Winner: Washington)

2015: Stanford Cardinal vs USC Trojans (Winner: Stanford)

2014: Oregon Ducks vs Arizona Wildcats (Winner: Oregon)
