Raiders Sign Willie Snead to a One-Year Deal

Willie Snead

The Las Vegas Raiders are adding another veteran receiver to their roster. The Raiders agreed to sign Willie Snead to a one-year deal.

Willie Snead

Last season Snead caught 33 passes for 432 yards and three touchdowns. He played in 13 games for the Baltimore Ravens last year; Snead also started eight with Baltimore.

Snead joins a crowded Raiders receiving room, with the signing of John Brown and the re-signing of Zay Jones; the Raiders also have second-year players Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards, along with slot receiver Hunter Renfrow. There will be a lot of competition going on in the training camp.

Snead will compete with Renfrow for snaps in the slot. Also, Snead can play on the outside as well. There will be competition for snaps between all these receivers, and there is only one ball. Training camp will be interesting, to say the least. Snead has played in the NFL for seven seasons and knows how to play the receiver position.

Snead talked about what he could bring to the Raiders, “I have been a part of big games and I know what it takes to win,” Snead said in a Zoom news conference on Friday. “I definitely think that bringing me in and bringing in a John Brown, those types of guys, we can definitely change the culture here. I am just excited about having the opportunity to give some of my leadership to this organization.”

Willie Snead played his best football while with the New Orleans Saints; in 2016, he had career-high 72 catches for 896 yards and four touchdowns. In the prior season with the Saints, he caught 69 balls for 984 yards. Drew Brees and Snead made quite the connection. In his career. Snead caught 410 passes for 3,393 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Snead will have an excellent chance to make the Raiders roster because head coach Jon Gruden loves veteran receivers. Snead does bring toughness to the Raiders, which they need.
