Vegas (December 1st, 2018)- UFC fighter Sage Northcutt has decided to explore different opportunities out of the UFC and signed a deal with ONE Championship.
One Championship is an organization that is in Asia that helps fighters develop their skill. Despite Northcutt final 3 fights that he won in dominating fashion, he was on the free agent board. Northcutt’s record is 11-2 and leaves the UFC with a 6-2 record, but UFC president Dana White thinks that Northcutt needs to improve.
“We let Sage go,” UFC president Dana White said on the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast. “Sage is young and Sage needs some work. So let him get some work in one of these other organizations and we’ll see where this kid ends up in a couple of years and maybe we’ll pick him back up again.”
Northcutt has been very optimistic about moving forward in his career and with ONE.” It’s an honor to be a part of the One Championship family! I’m looking forward to being a part of something great.”
ONE has brought over a couple of fighters from the UFC, like Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez to capitalize on their strengths as well as bringing in crowd favorites. With Northcutt coming into the line-up, this could be great for ONE and his image.
Northcutt had to deal with a lot of fighters complaining about how much he made or the fighters that he lost to. People kept asking was he really worth the money, so now he has the opportunity to show the world that he is the real deal.
