State Of The Lakers

Round 2(West Semi’s)Game 2

The Houston Rockets seized the early

lead with an impressive outing beating the

Lakers 112-97. The 1 thing working in the

Lakers favor that it was only game 1 which

usually is irrelevant to a series in the

whole scheme of things if you win the

series though.

This is what the playoffs are all about and

nothing comes easy. Tonight the Lakers

have to pass another test can they take

advantage of small ball team the leads

the playoffs in defensive efficiency. Will

the Lakers make the adjustments and will

the The Rockets not get complacent those

are the answers we will get by end of the

Game Summary

The 1st quarter both struggled to score

early. The defense from both sides was

very intense. The Lakers started pull away

a little but with a quick 11 points by

Anthony Davis who used his length

advantage early over the Rockets small

center PJ Tucker.

The Lakers would outscore the Rockets

28-11 over the final 5 minutes of the

quarter sparked by Markieff Morris who

knocked down 4 three pointers in 3

minutes of play. The Lakers would have

another 3 point make from Rajon Rondo to

end the quarter 36-20.

The 2nd quarter The Lakers would

continue to drive to the rim and going up

as many as 20 points at a point in the

quarter. The Rockets would make make

make a little dent with 18-7 run to cut the

lead down to 9.

The Lakers would have the answer for

that by ending the quarter with a 16-9

burst to maintain the lead at 67-51.

Lebron was the driving force in the period

with 15 points in the quarter with 17

The 2nd half started quickly with the

Rockets knocking down 3 straight three

pointers to ignite a 9-0 run and very quick

Lakers timeout cutting the lead down to

67-60. The Rockets stayed hot knocking

down another 5 points to increase their

run to 14-0 and cut the lead to 67-65.

The Rockets would outscored the Lakers

27-13 midway through the quarter with

the Lakers now just holding onto the lead

by a single point 80-79 ignited by 8 made

3 pointers. The Rocket would continue to

pile on the with another quick 6-0 run to

take lead 85-80.

The Lakers reduced to 1 and done

possessions that kept increasing the

confidence of the Rockets. The quarter

would end with the Rockets scoring 41

points in the period in a 59 point switch

taking the lead 92-90 into the final

The Final Quarter Lakers woke up and

started the scoring off with a 14-4 run to

retake the lead 104-96. The Rockets

would counter quickly with a quick 5

points to cut the lead to 104-101.

After a timeout The Lakers would counter

with a 9-0 run after a few long Rocket

misses. The Rockets would make a final

push scoring a quick 8-2 run but Lebron

would hit the go ahead shot to put the

Lakers up 8 Under 30 seconds. The

Lakers even the series 1-1 winning 117-109

led by AD who had 34 points, 10 rebounds

and 4 Assists. Lebron chipped in with 28

Points, 9 Rebounds, and 7 Assists.

My 2 Cents

The Lakers bench came alive tonight

Markieff Morris, Kyle Kuzma, and Rondo

combined for 39 of the 41 points from the

bench. Rondo also was key defending

Harden in a stretch where the Lakers

where trailing and made the momentum

switch with a key steal and layup.

The Lakers after giving up 41 points only

allowed 17 points in the final quarter.

This big effort was the difference tonight

and ensured the Lakers Victory.

The Rockets were able to get big games

from James Harden who finished with a

team high 27 points. The help came from

vets Robert Covington Eric Gordon and PJ

Tucker who combined for 59 points

draining 14 of the 22 three pointers on 53

Russell Westbrook was held to 10 points

and had 5 turnovers. The Rockets 3rd

quarter effort was huge but it seemed like

a gassed team in the 4th quarter and that

hot shooting that went ice cold then 3 ball

the gift and the curse for the Rockets.

Game 3 will be a toss up these teams both

want to get the edge this series is gonna

be a long 1. The next game will come

down to who defends better. The offense

will be there but both teams know they

have to win the battle of the boards and

the points off turnovers whoever wins that

battle will win the next game.

The Lakers will need to duplicate or better

the effort from tonight to keep the pesky

Rockets at bay this will be a series that we

soon won’t forget.
