A colossal event takes place each summer before the start of the new NFL regular season.
Unless you’re a gamer though you may not know about it, but it will help you understand why your spouse is throwing a Playstation controller at the TV while hurling insults at a stranger online.
On Monday the Madden NFL video game franchise released its list of ratings for every NFL player, including all the newly drafted rookies, on every team.
After a spectacular rookie campaign in which he rushed for 1,150 yards and 7 touchdowns, Josh Jacobs, the Raiders do-it-all star running back, is rated in the Top 10 at his position with a solid 88 ranking. He is also one of the Top 5 highest rated players on Las Vegas’ squad.
The other four include center Rodney Hudson (93), guard Richie Incognito (90), tackle Trent Brown (87) and tight end Darren Waller (85).
Disrespect, though, rears its ugly head when looking at the Raiders embattled quarterback, Derek Carr and free agent linebacker pick-up Cory Littleton.
The former Fresno State Bulldog, entering his 7th season, is fresh off a campaign in which he set career highs in completion percentage (70.4%), and total yards (4,054) with a respectable 21 TDs to 8 interceptions, and still managed to regress a point from last year’s 80 rating to this year’s 79.
Littleton is often as regarded as one of the game’s better defensive players and was a tackling machine for the Los Angeles Rams for the past four seasons. His rating? A puzzling 78.
What about the freshly drafted prospects that will be donning the Silver and Black this season?
The most exciting player without a doubt is none other than Alabama star Henry Ruggs III, who was given a 98 in the speed department for an overall ranking of 76. That might seem low to some Madden enthusiasts and Raiders fans, but it’s a very respectable number for a guy who hasn’t caught a NFL pass yet.
Plus, these numbers often change during the season to reflect the season the player is currently having. If Ruggs III comes out to be the playmaker everyone envisions then his rating will no doubt skyrocket.
The other rookie numbers: cornerback Damon Arnette (70), running back Lynn Bowden Jr. (69), wide receiver Bryan Edwards (70), linebacker Tanner Muse (67), guard John Simpson (65), and cornerback Amik Robertson (68).
Madden NFL 21 will be released on August 25.
