Las Vegas, NV – Linden, Michigan’s own Joey Spencer (7-0, 6 KOs) will make his return to the ring on Sunday night on the official undercard of the Premier Boxing Champions Jermell Charlo-Jorge Cota event taking place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center and airing live on FOX when he takes on Milwaukee’s Akeem Black (5-2, 2 KOs).
Another in a long line of talented fighters to materialize out of the fighting state of Michigan in recent years, Spencer was also a very decorated amateur and multiple-time national champ. Still just 19 years-old, the native of tiny Linden, Michigan has the charisma, charm, good looks, hard-working mentality and most importantly, the fighting pedigree to really make waves in the middleweight division for years to come.
“If you go into any of the gyms, in Michigan, there’s a very competitive boxing scene- Iron sharpens Iron, no matter where you go, you gotta perform. When you go in the gyms, There’s No ‘soft touches’ You gotta prove yourself.” -Joey Spencer, Rising PBC Middleweight
When asked by Vegas Sports Daily, Spencer described his upbringing being exposed to the dog-eat-dog gyms of Michigan as “a proving ground,” that generates champions. He also explained that he is a versatile fighter that fans will learn to love once they are exposed to his aggressive and explosive crowd-pleasing style.
