“I have nothing to lose!” – Thiago Santos
Since UFC 239 was announced I’ve been extremely excited. With names like Jon Jones, Amanda Nunes, and UFC’s newcomer Ben Askren this card is looking very entertaining. As to that here are the three fights that I’m mostly looking forward to seeing.
Starting with Welterweight fighters Jorge Masvidal vs Ben Askren. Ben Askren made his UFC debut earlier this year at UFC 235 with an impressive submission victory over Robbie Lawler in the 1st round.
Now fighting Jorge Masvidal I’m wondering what Ben Askren are we going to see. He has 6 (T)KO and 6 submission victories so he can do a little of everything. Which this leads back to Jorge Masvidal how can he adjust to that? What will be better at Ben Askren at that night? I feel he should keep the fight standing, Jorge is a great kickboxer that could be a strength for him to get a victory. Either way, it goes this should be a great fight.
Entering into our co-main event the UFC women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes vs former champion Holly Holms. This fight could very well win the fight of the night for the entire card. With Nunes coming off an amazing 1st round knockout over Cris Cyborg to become the first woman ever to hold two belts in the UFC! She has all the momentum in the world. Right now Amanda Nunes is at the top right now and this is a perfect opportunity for Holly Holmes to get back to where she once was, I mean it’s not like she has never shocked the world before. Back in 2015, she was the 1st woman to ever defeat Ronda Rousey but Amanda Nunes did as well in 2016. Both of these women are truly warriors and I don’t see this fight going to the ground too much so be prepared for an amazing where anything can happen.
Lastly, we have our main event Jon Jones vs Thiago Santos. Anytime Jon Jones is fighting you have to watch arguably the greatest UFC fighter of all time you never really want to miss any of his fights. Thiago Santos who is rank number 2 right now in the light heavyweight division he has been wanting a fight with Jones for a while now. He finally gets his opportunity at Jones and the title, with winning his last eight fights most of them coming by (T)KO right now he the best fighter for Jones. This should be another action pack fight I don’t see Santos wanting this fight to go to the ground so most likely he will see a lot of striking in this fight unless Jones does gets it to the ground either. This fight can determine the next future fights. If Santos wins ,will Jones stay to rematch him? or move up to fight Daniel Cormier? or if Jones wins still the question remains will he move up? or stay at light heavyweight until the potential fight with Israel Adesanya? All in all, this should be a great action packed fight.
In conclusion, UFC 239 has all the potential to be the Pay-Per-View of 2019. There is also a couple of fights on the preliminary card I’m looking forward to, like Claudia Gadelha vs Randa Markos. Seeing what Claudia will do differently after losing her last fight. Also, The Ultimate Fighter season 26 winner Sean O’Malley will be fighting Marlon Vera.
Make sure you watch and don’t miss UFC 239 on July 6 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
