“With a little drive and elbow grease you can go the distance.” -Amber Nova
Weighing In: Q&A with Amber Nova on the growth of wrestling + Love
Q: Who is your favorite athlete?
Amber Nova: Growing up I played baseball, volleyball and made varsity cheerleading my freshman year. I liked the Yankees, my parents born in Jersey so obviously rooting for a northern team. As far as a “favorite athlete” watching professional wrestling growing up is where I really looked up to the men and women athletes.
Just to name a few influences: Sting, Goldberg, Booker T, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerreo, Sid Vicious, Madusa, Luna Vachon, Victoria, Gail Kim, Lita, Trish stratus, Scott Steiner, AJ Lee, Sasha Banks, John Cena and many more.
Q: What is your favorite all-time meal?
AN: Being raised off of spaghetti five times a week from an Italian and Irish decent loving carbs. Broccoli, chicken, sweet potato, asparagus, sweet potato french fries would be a go to dinner options and of course spaghetti and garlic bread!
Q: What is your go-to-move during a match?
AN: While I have a lot of high flying moves that I like to showcase, my go to move is a guillotine choke. I might not use it that often, but if I’m ever in trouble, watch out because I’ll make you (pass out) as I did one of the radio show co-hosts on Monsters in the Morining on Real Radio 104.1 as seen on YouTube. For your enjoyment, here’s the link!
Q: When you are not training, or fixing cars how does Amber Nova unwind?
AN: I love my WHISKEY, Yuengling, or a nice glass of red wine. In all seriousness, I’m serious haha, but also outdoor activities, beach, paddle boarding, kayaking, Hot Yoga at OPY, playing pool, a good read to unwind my mind. Sky diving! It’s been too long!!
Q: Who influenced you to become a wrestler?
AN: The same person that inspired me to have an interest in classic cars, my dad. I would constantly watch wrestling with my dad. While my other siblings would come to the live events, they didn’t keep up with it as did I. It was always a thought in the back of my head to pursue, but didn’t think it was possible until one day. I had the drive to do it and my dad and mom encouraged me completely.
Q: Tell me about being a member of the WSA?
AN: It is a very welcoming group of athletes and individuals. WSA is a great group of people in the community working to help others and I’m very proud to be a new member.
Q: How was the WSA Pro Bowl Party?
AN: Fun, creative and pleasant event with opportunity to inspire others, meet talented unique individuals with fascinating stories to tell.
Q: Do you plan on wresting in Vegas for ROH?
AN: I might plan on it, but they don’t know yet. I do plan on wrestling in Vegas in April for the Cauliflower Alley Club, hope everyone comes out it will be an action packed event!
Q: How important is it for independent contractors to promote their brands outside of organizations?
AN: To inform uninformed individuals about an entertaining fascinating sport that they don’t know they are missing out on.
Q: Simone Johnson, The Rock’s daughter signed with the WWE NXT. Does it help the sport, because she has to earn her spot?
AN: Congratulations to Simone for following in her fathers/family’s legacy. Of course it helps the sport, the company for legends sons and daughters to be pursuing the same career. While maybe her father has helped open that door for her, she still has to live up to that family name and work hard to earn that spot.
Q: Are you a dog or cat person?
AN: Cat person. However, I do like dogs, usually big dogs. I can name at least one small dog I like.
Q: Favorite pump on song before a match?
AN: My entrance song to the ring of course. ‘Machinehead by Bush.’
Q: Fans want to know, are you single or dating anyone?
AN: Dean, my 1973 Nova. He takes me wherever I need to go. Moved to Orlando with a Nova and a Dream.
Q: If you weren’t a pro wrestler/mechanic, what other profession would you be working at?
AN: Probably an EMT back in Beaufort, South Carolina. The career that I left behind to pursue professional wrestling.
Q: What do you like in a guy?
AN: Honesty, humble, good hearted, nice teeth, sense of humor, easy going and active.
Q: At the end of the day: What do you want your legacy to be?
AN: The girl with a Nova and a dream who had the drive to pursue her fantasies and make them become reality. Making my family proud and being able to take care of them. With a little drive and elbow grease you can do anything!
Q: What is next up for Amber Nova?
AN: Team Vision Dojo has a fun filled night with amazing wrestlers on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 8 p.m.
